Well, I think it must be very difficult in a city the size of London to cut down on the amount of traffic in peak hours. Making more drivers pay to come into the centre certainly seems to work here and there have already been extensions of the congestion charge zone. It is probably very important that the government keeps pushing ahead with this, and they have done well to invest in a lot of improvements and expansions to the tram and tube systems.
In my opinion, the government must try to encourage more people to cycle into work in the city. This could be done by installing more cycle paths which, at the moment, are simply limited to areas outside city centre as no real priority is given to them. I know that cycling is not for everyone; this is why I would also like to see more free parking in outer city so that commuters could park their cars and then use public transport for the last part of their journey.
